Keep Public Lands in Public Hands

Last summer we rolled up our sleeves to fight back against a proposed land swap that would have given away 600 acres of land within the Guana Wildlife Management Area in exchange for scattered parcels across the state through a last-minute deal. Florida Senate Bill 546/ House Bill 441 - Land Conservation would provide stronger protections for conservation land by requiring more public notice before meetings to discuss proposed sales or swaps of conservation land, requiring the state to publish a statement that explains why the lands are no longer needed for conservation purposes, and requiring more transparency about the details of a proposed swap.

Tell the Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources to vote YES on SB 546

SB 546 - Land Conservation will have its first vote in the Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources on Tuesday, January 13th. We need you to email committee members and urge them to vote YES on SB 546.

You can include things like:

  • Why you feel that public lands are important
  • Which public lands you and your family spend time at
  • Your response to last year's proposed Guana land swap
